Cookies
This page explains how Multi Layer Security Pvt. Ltd. ("MSecurity", "we", "us", or "our") uses cookies and similar storage technologies on the website at msecurity.app. It complements our Privacy Policy — for the bigger picture of how we handle personal data, read that document first.
If you have any questions, email [email protected].
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your device when you visit. It lets the site remember things between page loads or visits — for example, that you're signed in, or that you prefer dark mode. Cookies are used by almost every website on the internet, and they are not harmful by themselves.
We also use localStorage, a similar but slightly different browser feature that stores data inside your browser without sending it to our servers automatically. From a privacy-law perspective (EU ePrivacy Directive, UK PECR), localStorage is treated the same way as cookies, so for clarity we refer to "cookies" throughout this page to mean both.
2. The cookies we use today
We use a small set of strictly necessary cookies. These are essential for the site to function — without them, you couldn't sign in, your theme preference would reset every page load, and pricing would be shown in the wrong currency. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent under EU/UK law.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
msec_token |
msecurity.app | Keeps you signed in to your account. | Cookie | 30 days |
msec_refresh |
msecurity.app | Lets us refresh your session without making you sign in again. | Cookie | 60 days |
msec-theme |
msecurity.app | Remembers whether you've chosen light, dark, or system theme. | localStorage | Until you clear it |
msec-region |
msecurity.app | Remembers the region/currency you picked for pricing. | localStorage | Until you clear it |
msec-geo |
msecurity.app | Caches your IP-detected country so we don't re-query the geo service on every visit. | localStorage | 7 days |
We do not currently set any analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies on this site. If that changes in the future, we will update this page and you will be asked for consent before any non-essential cookie is set, in accordance with applicable law.
3. Cookies inside the MSecurity apps
The MSecurity desktop and mobile apps (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android) do not use cookies. They communicate with our API directly using a signed token stored securely by the operating system's keychain or equivalent. The cookies described on this page apply only to the website.
4. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no consensus on how to interpret this signal, and we currently don't change our behaviour based on it — but since we don't set any tracking cookies in the first place, the practical outcome is the same: no tracking, regardless of your DNT setting.
5. Third-party content embedded on the site
If we embed third-party content on our website — for example, a YouTube video, a Google Map, or a tweet — that third party may set its own cookies when the content loads. We only embed third-party content where it's necessary for the page's function, and we use privacy-respecting embed modes (e.g. YouTube's youtube-nocookie.com domain) where they exist.
As of the date of this page, no third-party content is embedded on msecurity.app that sets cookies.
6. How to refuse or remove cookies
6.1 Strictly necessary cookies
Because these cookies are required for the site to work, we don't ask for consent. You can still delete them via your browser settings — but if you do, you will be signed out, your theme will reset, and pricing will revert to USD until you set them again.
6.2 Browser-level controls
All modern browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies. Quick links to the relevant settings:
You can also browse in private/incognito mode, which clears cookies when you close the window.
6.3 Withdrawing analytics or marketing consent
We don't currently use analytics or marketing cookies. If we add them in the future, this page will list them, you will be asked to consent before they load, and you will be able to withdraw consent at any time by returning to this page or clicking Cookies in the footer.
7. Changes to this page
We'll update this page if the cookies we use change. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page with a new "Last updated" date. If we add any non-essential cookies, we'll re-ask for your consent before setting them.
